Integrate to strengthen

Private health, responsible for assisting over 25% of the Brazilian

population, has been fundamenting itself as an important sustai-

nability pillar for the health sector in Brazil. One of our biggest

challenges is to find innovative solutions for the constant growth

of assistance expenses, given the current population ageing sce-

nario and strict sector regulation, at the same time in which we

conduct our business in an ethical and responsible way within the

social-environmental sphere.

The Unimed System was born with the foundation of Unimed

Santos in 1967 by Edmundo Castilho. Today, Unimed is the largest

medical assistance network in the country – present in 84% of

the national territory – and the largest medical work cooperative

in the world. In 2014 we reached 351 cooperatives, assisting over

21 million clients. Our beneficiaries rely on 112 thousand active

physicians, 113 own hospitals and 12 day-hospitals, besides first-

aid units, laboratories, ambulances and accredited hospitals

to guarantee quality in medical, hospital and complementary

diagnostic assistances.

Message from the President

In order to conduct this structure with excellence and in an inte-

grated way, we have recently reviewed the Confederation Strategic

Map, the objective of which is to reach the System sustainability.

We have been committed to good governance practices directed

towards cooperativism since we created and implemented the

Corporate Governance, a flexible model aiming at meeting the

Unimeds and their personnel’s yields, grounded on the principles

of transparency, equity, accounts settlement, responsibility, succes-

sion, and especially sustainability.

In cooperativism it is important that all be united around the sa-

me objective. Therefore, I renew the commitment and collective

intention to develop our business in a permanent way guided by

the strictest moral principles, based on cooperation, our greatest

destiny.
