Unimed Social Balance
Since 2004, Unimed do Brasil has prioritized the completion of the Social Balance of Instituto Brasileiro de
Análises Sociais e Econômicas (Ibase), adapted for cooperatives. One of the Balance purposes is to assess the
diversity and social economical distribution in the organization, and it has currently become an important
management and indicators collection tool in the Unimed System, complementing the existence of other ac-
counts settlement mechanisms.
In 2014, the Social Balance coordinated by Unimed do Brasil counted on the participation of 231 Unimeds.
During the year, the revision of the indicators which will integrate the new dimensions and topics was final-
ized, with the purpose of approximating this tool more and more to the cooperatives reality and challenges.
Four gatherings were held during the revision process, which were attended by representatives from different
Unimeds. Discussions included an analysis of the Social Balance historic role, reflections referring to the ac-
counts settlement and transparency evolution in reporting and acknowledgment for such practice, as well as a
survey of suggestions for the new model alterations and structuring, which will be available in 2016.
Management and Sustainability Reports
Unimed do Brasil incentives the System cooperatives to report
their performance based on the international report guidelines
of GRI – Global Reporting Initiative, making available a technical
team prepared to guide interested cooperatives. In 2014, a pan-
el at the National Sustainability Gathering was dedicated about
the topic Communication, Transparency and Engagement – Sus-
tainability Report. We point out that Law no. 5764 of 12/16/1971,
which defines the National Cooperativism Policy, contemplat-
ed in its Article 44 the management bodies accounts settlement
comprising submission of a management report. Therefore, each
Unimed launches its own management report, comprising specif-
ic report guidelines or not.
