Union relations

Freedom of association is a human right contemplated by international declarations and

conventions, in particular ILO Conventions no. 87 (Union Freedom and Unionization

Right Protection) and no. 98 (Unionization and Collective Negotiation Right). In 2014, out

of the total of 231 Unimeds which answering the indicators in the Unimed Social Balance,

35.50% informed that they follow the ILO standards concerning union freedom practices,

collective negotiation right and employees internal representation, 17.32% reported that

they encourage the practice while 44.16% stated that they do not get involved, leaving

adherence by free choice. Out of a universe of 231 cooperatives – 65.81% of Unimed coo-

peratives – the reported number of unionized members of affiliated to the Professional

Association was 50,425 members in 2014.
