In 2014 the number of black employees was 14,646, representing 16.84% of the to-
tal number of employees. When we compare this indicator to year 2013, we notice
a significant 31.94% increase in the number of black people in the Unimeds gener-
al employees staff. Another indicator shows that approximately 10% of management
positions were held by black employees. With the purpose of collecting these indica-
tors, there were considered as black people those self-declared as “black” or “colored”
among the 231 Unimeds reporting the indicator. In the same year, 32 indian employ-
ees were registered in the employees staff.
According to IPEA data, over half the Brazilian population is currently constituted by
black persons. Among the main challenges of our society there is salary leveling. This
is indicated by a survey of the “Salário BR” portal in 2014, where the black profession-
als compensation eventually was 35.04% lower than that of white professionals in
Brazil. According to indicators from the Unimed Social Balance, the white profession-
als average salary in 2014 reached R$ 2,188.57 in contrast with the black employees
average salary, which was R$ 1,705.94; 22% lower than the white employees average
salary. As to indians, the average salary in 2014 corresponded to 88.90% of white em-
ployees salary. For the next years, the collection process of indicators referring to the
average compensations comparison will be detailed per held positions levels, allow-
ing a more effective comparison among these indicators.
